favorite Rendez-vous at the gardens 2021

The gardens of Bournazel castle were designed and designed during the Renaissance by the architect of the works of the castle whose sponsors were Charlotte de Mancip, the heiress of the estate, and her husband Jean de Buisson, soldier of François Ier and wealthy financier. If the castle has experienced destruction, transformations and looting, according to historical events, since 2007, its owners are working to restore it to its 16th century finery by enriching it with a traditional reconstruction identical to the parts destroyed.

As for the gardens, created from 1545, they also experienced many setbacks with their destruction during the Wars of Religion, then their abandonment, before being recreated recently on the basis of archives and archaeological excavations, according to the proportions of the large Serlian facade of the east wing of the castle.

Classified Remarkable Gardens since January 2019, these private gardens with their geometric layout, pruned and flowered, are organized into two distinct spaces: on one side, the orchard, and on the other, the “enclosed garden” surrounded by a large wall of rock. This “Hortus conclusus” is composed of 9 parterres which form an allegorical course around the education of a prince. We find there the flora restored from the endemic species of the Renaissance, around fountains, vases, arbours and terraces, pond, polyandrion, labyrinth, room with hornbeam partitions…

As a partner of Rendez-vous aux jardins, Binette & Jardin loves this garden which is one of the purest examples of a 16th century French garden, taking up a symbolic, literary and intellectual organization offering a sort of Chinese portrait of the French courtier. , inhabited by honor, bravery and “beautiful spirit”. The current creation of the gardens, identical to those of the Renaissance, echoes the theme of the 2021 Rendez-vous aux jardins event “The transmission of knowledge”.
