favorite Rendez-vous at the gardens 2022

The very recently created Gérenton rose garden opened to the public for the first time on the occasion of Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022. In 2015, Sylvie and John Brun acquire a little over one and a half hectares of old vines that have been fallow for more than 40 years, on which wild roses had had time to settle. They were so fragrant that they awakened a memory in Sylvie Brun, that of the Boboli Gardens in Florence. The teacher then had the idea of creating a rose garden.

Gerenton rose garden, Vaucluse (84)

Concerned about the protection of nature and the environment, like her husband, she embarked on the nursery activity (3000m²) in order to take cuttings of roses, outdoors without forcing, rather than grafting them, so that They are perfectly adapted to the hot and dry Mediterranean climate and the limestone soil, which characterize the environment at the foot of Mont Ventoux. Its demanding cultivation practices without any treatment or chemical inputs have enabled it to obtain the Nature&Progrès organic label.

Today, the rose garden extends over 5000m² with a collection that counts 300 different old varieties of roses scented from 7 families of old roses: Damascus, Centfeuilles, Mossy Centfeuilles, China roses, Alba roses, Moschata hybrids. Emblematic plants of Provence come to play the companions of the rose bushes to complete this wonderful Mediterranean garden: cistus, rosemary, lavender, Perovskia, pistachio trees…

The nursery opened in September 2021 while the garden will not open until May 2022 with an official inauguration on May 26, 2022, just a few days before the Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022 event! For the occasion, a guide will explain to visitors how to manage and optimize watering techniques, choose varieties adapted to climate change, apply mulching techniques…

As a partner of Rendez-vous aux jardins, Binette & Jardin loves this very recent garden which was built from nothing, solely from the passion and stubbornness of its creators, who made a point of planting only roses adapted to the Mediterranean climate. In the end, we are under the spell of all these fragrant old roses, resistant to summer drought, grown organically, in an approach of respect for biodiversity and rational use of water resources, which which echoes the 2022 theme of the Rendez-vous aux jardins event “Gardens facing climate change”.
