This Grenoble Alpes Métropole educational garden was created in 1975, on the edge of the Île d’Amour park in the town of Meylan. Its 2.7 hectares are exceptionally open to the general public for the Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022, but it is not unknown to schoolchildren since the rest of the year, it welcomes children who are offered sessions intended to discover gardening, the cycle of nature, agro-ecology techniques and understanding the natural interactions of all these ecosystems.
Among the educational materials made available to teachers, the garden plots are central to understanding the gestures of the gardener (planting, repotting, transplanting, harvesting) but there are also culture tunnels, an educational pond to identify its inhabitants and its functioning. , an orchard, hives including an educational one, nest boxes, insect shelters to discover the diversity of pollinators, piles of wood, compost to approach its usefulness, its operating process thanks to the small animals it contains…
The plants are chosen in such a way as to respect biodiversity and promote its development while understanding the interactions (ecosystem, food chain) and the concept of the life cycle of nature and the seasons. Children are encouraged to observe the diversity of life, to respect the environment and the work of each.
If these toddlers from Grande Section in CE2 do not become eco-responsible citizens, they will nevertheless have received a solid base!
As a partner of Rendez-vous aux jardins, Binette & Jardin likes this garden precisely because it is “educational”, and because the future belongs to the younger generations who will have to repair the damage done previously by adopting gestures and environmentally friendly practices. To do this, children who discover the functioning and the needs of nature from an early age, will have the chance to have essential assets to project themselves into a more virtuous society in which they will be actors. “Gardens in the face of climate change”, the 2022 theme of the Rendez-vous aux jardins event finds its full expression here in order to overcome and try to mitigate what awaits us.
