On the banks of the Aiguebelle river, in the Aude Black Mountains, old terraced communal gardens, characteristic of the village of Saissac, occupied an exceptional site. Some lovers of these vestiges and their environment wanted to bring these old gardens back into culture in a dynamic of landscape revaluation. To do this, in November 2020, they created the association of Shared Gardens of Aiguebelle.
The gardens are cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and permaculture, which gives an educational dimension to the project. This choice of cultivation method makes it possible to raise awareness among the public – young and old – about the protection of nature and living things, with workshops and training sessions.
The adventure has another purpose of helping the poorest since the organic production, from the shared gardens of Aiguebelle, allows the donation of vegetables for people in difficulty.

As a partner of Rendez-vous aux jardins, Binette & Jardin likes the concept of the shared garden which is the basis of the Aiguebelle gardens: beyond the food crop interest, the values of sharing, solidarity, of exchange deserve to be highlighted at a time when purchasing power at half mast is plunging families into precariousness. In addition, the permaculture gardening practices that are introduced to participants are part of the solutions to be put in place to adapt “Gardens in the face of climate change”, the 2022 theme of the Rendez-vous aux jardins event.
Our favorite for the Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022
On the occasion of their first participation in the Rendez-vous aux jardins 2022, the shared gardens of Aiguebelle are offering free visits on Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. as well as a naturalist walk in the Aude Black Mountain hosted by Aude botanist and scientific journalist David Richin, by reservation, Saturday June 4 at 2 p.m. for a duration of 3.5 hours and a distance of 3.5 km, accessible from 5 years old (provide suitable shoes and drinks). It will allow you in particular to discover the old village and its medieval castle of the Cathar Country while being aware of the evolution of local vegetation in the face of global warming.
