Guzmania (Guzmania) is an epiphytic plant native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, which fears the cold (15°C minimum) and which is cultivated as an indoor plant in our European latitudes. Its easy maintenance and striking beauty makes it a plant often chosen to adorn an apartment.

Guzmania (Guzmania), houseplant cousin of pineapple

Guzmania, from the Bromeliaceae family, is highly prized for its evergreen foliage and its remarkable flowering. Its life cycle is between three and five years. The ribbon-like, tender and evergreen leaves are arranged in a rosette. Accented with a shine, their color generally corresponds to a solid green. You can sometimes observe brown or red stripes.

The floral stem includes magnificent bracts of red, pink or bright orange, which appear in the heart of the rosette of leaves. It is also through this rosette that it is appropriate to water the guzmania during flowering by pouring a little water into it. Avoid watering at the root. A plant from the pineapple family, guzmania was introduced to Europe in the 19th century. Its name pays homage to the Spanish botanist Anastasio Guzman.
