Fitness training makes you as happy as a summer romance

Berlin. A recent survey by fitness company Peloton shows that regular exercise can stimulate the release of happiness hormones that are strong enough to compete with the feelings of a summer romance. 64 percent of Germans have already experienced a summer romance or would like to have one. Almost one in two people feel happiness during fitness and wellness activities, which shows that exercise and well-being are closely linked. In addition, 65 percent of those surveyed would try new fitness activities without long-term commitments.

A recent survey by the fitness company Peloton shows that regular exercise can stimulate the release of happiness hormones that are strong enough to compete with the feelings of a summer romance. 64 percent of Germans have already experienced a summer romance or would like to have one. Almost one in two people feel happiness during fitness and wellness activities, which shows that exercise and well-being are closely linked. In addition, 65 percent of those surveyed would try new fitness activities without long-term commitments.

Interestingly, 48 percent of respondents experience feelings of happiness through fitness and wellness activities. For Germans, summer romances are characterized above all by feelings of happiness (52%), passion (40%) and non-commitment (18%). It is noteworthy that 46 percent would try sports or fitness training if it could give them the same butterflies in their stomach as a summer fling – regardless of whether they are single or married.

Fitness and happiness: The science behind it

“Working out is not only physically stimulating, but can also be a source of emotional stimulation, similar to the appeal of a summer fling,” explains Marie Beaupain, psychologist and neuroscientist at the Leibniz Institute for Work Research at TU Dortmund (IfADo). Research shows that the release of happiness hormones and neurotransmitters such as endorphins and dopamine during exercise activates the same brain regions and networks that are involved in experiencing romantic feelings. The freedom and flexibility that come with no long-term commitments make summer flings particularly appealing. This lack of commitment allows you to enjoy new experiences without worry and can therefore increase your emotional well-being.”

Flexible training with Peloton Rental: freedom and motivation

To meet these needs, Peloton has developed the Peloton Rental offer. It allows you to rent the Peloton Bike and Bike+ for a fixed monthly price**, with no long-term commitment. Members get access to a comprehensive range of live and on-demand classes, supported by the best trainers in the industry. This flexible solution motivates you to try new fitness activities and experience the emotional high and joy of a summer fling – without the stress of a long-term commitment.

Holistic Workout: Physical and Emotional Benefits

Dr. Charlotte Weidenbach, doctor and trainer at Peloton, describes the benefits of training: “Training with Peloton not only offers physical benefits, but also promotes emotional well-being. Our members appreciate the freedom and flexibility that Peloton Rental offers. They can try out different workouts and find their personal favorites, similar to a summer fling. The variety of class intensities and music styles offered by different trainers ensures that there is something for everyone and that you can always discover something new depending on your mood. This combination of live and on-demand classes guarantees continuous motivation and variety, keeping training exciting and carefree.”

Marie Beaupain adds: “The activation of reward and motivation networks in our brain and the release of endorphins and dopamine lead to feelings of happiness, which play a key role in our emotional well-being. During a summer fling, these networks are activated by new, exciting experiences and social interactions. Similarly, an intense fitness workout can activate our reward and motivation system through physical exertion and the achievement of personal fitness goals, leading to a feeling of euphoria and satisfaction.”
