Zurndorf Nursing Competence Center as a further milestone in the future care plan

Another milestone in Burgenland’s future care plan has been achieved: Today, Thursday, the Zurndorf Nursing Competence Center was officially opened. A “4th generation house” was built here for around 13 million euros. The new nursing competence center is operated by the Samaritan Association of Burgenland. 60 long-term and five short-term care places make the new nursing home the largest in the district, meaning that we are in the midst of a far-reaching expansion offensive in the care sector, as State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil emphasized. “With the diverse measures as part of the future care plan – whether in the form of care bases, as part of future-oriented nursing training or through the construction and expansion of nursing homes like here in Zurndorf – we are breaking new ground to provide high-quality, affordable health care close to home. and care offerings and to guarantee them for the future and keep them affordable. Profit orientation should not play a role in care. “We have therefore enshrined non-profit status for the operation of care facilities in law from 2029 and thus ensure that no profit is made from care and support, provided state funds are received for it, and that every euro remains in the care system,” said the state governor, who introduced the new The nursing competence center was opened together with Samariterbund managing director Andreas Balog, Zurndorf mayor Werner Friedl, OSG chairman Alfred Kollar, Burgenland Energy CEO Stephan Sharma and in the presence of social councilor Leonhard Schneemann and state councilor Daniela Winkler.

Both residents of the nursing competence center and numerous guests from the region attended the ceremony. This shows the great interest in the center, but also the general interest in securing nursing and care, emphasized the governor.

State Councilor for Social Affairs Leonhard Schneemann emphasized the importance of investing in the construction and expansion of care facilities: “In Burgenland there are currently 45 retirement homes and nursing homes with a total of 2,300 beds. As part of the expansion offensive, the nursing competence center in Schandorf was opened last year and today the one in Zurndorf. The nursing homes in Draßburg and Olbendorf will be expanded to include a total of 60 nursing places. This means that the state is investing more than 40 million euros in the expansion and new construction of inpatient and day-care facilities – for aging in dignity, regardless of income.”

An important partner for the state in implementing the expansion and new building plans in the nursing sector is the Samaritan Association (ASB), which also operates the new nursing competence center (PKZ) in Zurndorf. The PKZ is the sixth and largest nursing home in the Neusiedl am See supply region, which therefore has 311 nursing places. By being designed into five residential groups with twelve residents each, the care facility has a “village character” with centrally located general areas that serve as meeting points and meeting places. The minimum size of 60 beds calculated by experts also offers the best conditions for optimal care and efficient organization.

ASB Managing Director Andreas Balog: “We are very pleased to be able to continue on the successful path in nursing with the operation of this nursing competence center. For us, that means the highest quality, happy and self-determined residents, satisfied employees and anchoring in the region.”

The regional economy will also be stimulated, says Zurndorf’s mayor Werner Friedl, for whom the nursing competence center represents enormous added value for the community: “Citizens can now age close to home, the need is there. The nursing competence center also improves the quality of life of all Zurndorf residents, because village life is also enlivened by the nursing home.”

The Oberwarter Siedlungsgenossenschaft (OSG) acted as the developer. OSG Managing Director Alfred Kollar: “As a partner of the state of Burgenland, OSG has been able to build 16 retirement and nursing homes in the last 20 years. This nursing competence center here in Zurndorf is now a logical continuation of the experiences and developments during this time, a nursing center of the next generation.”

Sustainability was taken into account in the building, as the increased focus on sustainability is the subject of a strategic partnership between ASB and Burgenland Energie (BE). BE Managing Director Stephan Sharma emphasized at the official opening of the care competence center: “As Burgenland Energie, we have developed into a leading provider of energy independence in Austria in recent years. We cooperate with numerous companies across Austria, including well-known partners such as ÖAMTC and ÖBB. We are therefore particularly pleased that we have now been able to enter into a cooperation with the Samaritan Association. As part of this cooperation, we will make ten care centers energy independent. We will achieve this through the use of photovoltaic systems and storage systems, heat pumps, e-mobility and the establishment of energy communities.”

Governor Hans Peter Doskozil concluded: “By creating around 40 additional jobs in the area of nursing and care, the Nursing Competence Centre also represents an important stimulus for the labour market – a great social and economic success. But the most important thing is that those in need of care can feel at home here!”
